The Speedmax Skiathlon is versatile – essentially a combination of three different boots.

In skiathlon competitions, this is an obvious choice, but it has become the most popular elite ski for mass-start races because it performs better in double-poling than almost any other ski.

In skating, it's not quite as stiff as the pure Speedmax Skate, and in classic style, it's not as sensitive as the Speedmax Classic – but it excels in double poling , and in the other two styles, it offers sufficient support and sensitivity.
- Some World Cup skiers use a mono ski in basic traditional competitions because it provides better control in turns than a normal traditional ski.
