π‘ xcSkiGuru's tips β when to change your ski skins and how.
Changing the ski skin.
1. Check for wear and tear
-
If the skin has thinned, the nap has worn smooth, or the grip has weakened β it's time to replace it.
-
The average lifespan is approximately 1000β1500 km, but it depends on the weather conditions and skiing style.
2. Disconnection
-
Warm it up a little (e.g., with a hair dryer) to soften the adhesive surface of the old skin.
-
Peel the skin evenly off the base β start from the tip or stem, avoid tearing sideways.
3. Cleaning the platform
-
Remove any adhesive residue with a cleaning agent (skin remover or ski maintenance remover).
-
Wipe dry before installing a new one.
4. Installing a new skin
-
Align the skin with the groove, starting from one end.
-
Apply pressure evenly throughout the entire stroke.
-
Allow the adhesive surface to set for at least overnight at room temperature.
𧽠Skincare
-
Regular cleaning
Use skin shampoo or cleaning spray every few ski runs β removes dirt and improves glide. -
Skin lubrication (anti-ice / anti-dirt)
Use skin spray or liquid β prevents freezing in wet weather and reduces dirt accumulation. -
Freeze prevention at zero degrees Celsius
With moist, wet snow, the skin may freeze β use anti-ice treatment or fluorine-free glide products for the skin.
π‘ Always keep skin cleaner and skin shampoo in your wax kit β regular maintenance can even double the lifespan of your skis.
