When flying with carbon cross-country poles, a proper rigid or semi-rigid pole tube is a much safer option than relying on a soft pole bag alone. Carbon shafts are exceptionally light and stiff, but they do not tolerate heavy lateral impacts well.

If your poles have removable baskets, take them off for travel and keep them in the internal spare-parts compartment. Pack the poles so that the shafts, grips and tips cannot repeatedly knock against each other inside the tube.
