Glide powder
More info/instructions for powders
Glide powders are a race-level finish for maximum speed and durability, especially in wet, dirty or very fast snow. All powders we carry are fluorine-free to meet current standards.
Find powders from Swix, Vauhti, Maplus and Toko at XCSkiGuru — best applied on top of a hot-waxed and well-brushed base.
❄️ Step-by-step:
- Prepare the base: Hot wax for the conditions, cool, scrape and brush (brass → nylon).
- Dose the powder: Thin, even veil over the entire base.
- Fix with iron: Correct temp, smooth pass ~8–10 s/ski. Don’t overheat.
- Or roto-cork: Several light passes; less heat, tidy indoors.
- Cool: 10–20 minutes without touching.
- Fiber cloth: Wipe loose powder before scraping.
- Light scrape: Tip → tail, only remove excess.
- Brush: Brass/fine steel to open, then plenty of nylon to gloss. Optional soft finishing brush.
- Toppers (optional): Liquid or block can boost initial glide; always finish with brushing.
When powders shine: Wet/dirty snow, changing conditions, and long or very fast courses where durability and top speed matter.
Quick selection tips: Colder = harder; near zero/warm = softer. New, sharp crystals → harder/mix; old or wet → softer.
