Waxing tools – selection, use & kits

Ski bench & clamps: Stable platform = clean work. Three-point bench, wide clamps – especially for skate skis.
Waxing iron: Thermostat and even heat distribution. Race level 800–1000 W. Thick soleplate prevents heat spikes.
Scrapers: Plastic 3–5 mm (glide). Steel scraper only carefully for ice/irregularities.
Brushes: Order: brass or fine steel (light) → horsehair (optional) → nylon (finish). Keep brushes clean and labeled.
Corks & roto: Natural/synthetic cork and roto-cork for quick polish. Roto needs a drill and splash guard.
Fiber cloths & structure: Fiberlene/fiber cloth for wiping. Groove & structure tools for final touch.
Liquid & powder tools: Applicator sponges, felt pads, roto-felt. For powders: fine shaker and thermal bonding.
Safety gear: Gloves, respirator for liquid work, splash guard for roto tools, good ventilation.

How to choose?

Beginner: Bench, plastic scraper, nylon brush, fiber cloth, cork, basic iron (stable temp), cleaners.
Active skier: + brass/fine-steel brush, horsehair, groove tool, better iron (stable thermostat), roto-nylon.
Race service: + thick-plate iron, multiple brushes (grits), roto-cork/felt, dust extraction, precise thermometer.

Basic flow (hot glide wax):

Brush lightly with brass/fine steel → remove dust.
Melt wax with steady strokes, iron temp as specified.
Cool 15–30 min. Scrape with plastic along the ski.
Brush: light brass/fine steel → lots of nylon → polish with cork/felt.

Tips & care:

Keep brushes dry and dust-free. Don’t mix kick/glide brushes.
Clean the iron’s base regularly. Avoid too hot settings.
Roto: use splash guard and goggles; light pressure is enough.
