IDT Classic StakeSki EP Edition RM4 – heavy-resistance double-poling roller ski for strength endurance
IDT Classic StakeSki EP Edition RM4 is a specialist roller ski designed specifically for double-poling training. It is aimed at ambitious cross-country skiers, long-distance racers and competitive athletes looking to improve double-poling technique, upper-body power and ski-specific strength endurance.
Unlike a conventional classic roller ski, the StakeSki has no ratchet mechanism in the rear wheels. This means it is not designed for diagonal stride and kick training – the entire setup is focused on efficient double poling.
The extended 770 mm aluminium frame is 20 mm longer than the standard IDT Classic. The longer wheelbase increases directional stability and creates a calmer, more ski-like feel, particularly at higher speeds and during long double-poling sessions.
This version comes with RM4 rolling resistance, a very heavy training resistance. RM4 is significantly harder than RM2 or RM3 and is particularly suited to strength-endurance sessions, uphill double-poling intervals and training where a high muscular load at lower speed is the goal.

💡 XC Ski Guru tip
Do not choose RM4 simply because the heaviest possible roller ski must provide the best training. RM4 is a specific training tool.
Its high rolling resistance reduces speed and increases the workload of every double-poling cycle. This makes it highly effective for double-poling intervals, gradual uphill work and ski-specific strength-endurance blocks.
During longer sessions, however, pay close attention to technique. If the heavy resistance starts shortening your poling action, raising your shoulders or disrupting your rhythm, RM3 may be the better choice for most of your training volume.
For a competitive skier, an excellent setup can be RM3 for longer double-poling sessions and RM4 for dedicated strength-endurance workouts.
Because the StakeSki has no rear-wheel ratchet, it is not intended for diagonal-stride training. If you want to practise both classic kick and double poling, a standard IDT Classic is the better option.
Bindings are not included, unless specifically selected as part of a package.
👉 Who is the IDT StakeSki RM4 for?
