Swix Heat Wool LS M is a men’s merino-wool-blend midlayer for cross-country skiing in freezing conditions and winter outdoor activities. The temperature-regulating material and high collar add comfort when the wind bites and the pace stays moderate.

The half zip lets you adjust ventilation to terrain and effort. Flatlock seams reduce bulk under other layers, while internal thumb loops help keep the sleeves in place. Heat Wool adds warmth when a base layer and ski jacket alone are not enough.

• For long, easy endurance outings in freezing conditions: Heat Wool is worth considering when you are skiing steadily and spending a long time on the trails. The same combination may be too warm for hard uphill efforts.
• Under Triac or Elevation? Heat Wool adds warmth beneath Triac Windstopper Jacket M on cold days. Elevation Jacket M already has chest insulation, so I would first try a lighter base layer beneath it.
